Diffusion tube monitoring, London
NoiseAir were recently instructed to carry out diffusion tube monitoring as part on an air quality assessment at a site in central London. A planning application had been submitted to the local council proposing the development of 5 new build houses on a stretch of land located within a busy, built up area. Due to the land being situated in an Air Quality Management Area (AQMA), the council requested an air quality assessment as one of their planning conditions.
The development site is adjacent to several busy roads with heavy traffic flow. For residential developments, it is essential to consider future occupants’ exposure to existing poor air quality and also to make provisions to address local air quality problems.
Diffusion tube monitoring is a cost-effective, convenient method of measuring nitrogen dioxide (NO2) levels in the area over a minimum 3 month period. The results will be submitted to the council as part of an air quality assessment report which will quantify pollutant concentrations at the site and determine an appropriate level of mitigation.
