Noise At Work Assessment, Denbigh, North Wales
NoiseAir were recently appointed to carry out a workplace noise assessment at a dairy production facility in Denbigh, North Wales. The farm kitchen business has specialised in yogurt production since the 1980s and as the business has grown, so have the health and safety requirements! To ensure HSE compliance, a noise risk assessment was necessary to assess the various machinery and noisy manufacturing processes, which could potentially put employees at risk of excessive noise exposure.
Our experienced acoustic consultants attended the site to carry out the assessment and observed various operations in action. Employees were individually assessed to calculate their noise exposure levels throughout the working day. The company was provided with an acoustic report detailing findings and appropriate recommendations to protect employees’ hearing. This included staff training, treatment of noise at source, as well as designated hearing protection zones within the site.
Workplace noise risk assessments are carried out to determine whether employees are being exposed to excessive noise levels when calculated over a normalised eight-hour time period. There is extensive research to suggest that noise induced hearing loss is related to the amount of sound energy entering the ear over an extended period of time. Additionally, sudden high intensity noise levels are also considered as part of a noise risk assessment.
