Part E Sound Testing Malpas Cheshire
NoiseAir recently carried out ‘Part E’ sound testing for Building Regulations sign off at a newly converted property in Malpas, Cheshire. The project involved a barn conversion into 3 dwellings.
In accordance with Building Regulations Approved Document E, the conversion of the barn into multiple units meant that sound testing was necessary on completion. Approved Document E refers to the requirement for sound testing of partition walls and floors between adjoining dwellings to ensure that acceptable noise transmission levels are not exceeded (which inevitably would subject future residents to excessive noise levels).
Sound insulation testing (also known as ‘Part E testing’) covers both airborne and impact noise tests. An example of airborne noise would be conversation or music overheard from a neighbour’s apartment, whereas an example of impact noise would be footsteps being heard from a flat above. Excessive noise transmission can potentially create a problem for residents, so adequate sound insulation is essential.
Our acoustic consultants carried out the testing between the dividing walls of the three new units and on completion, a certificate was issued for the client to demonstrate compliance.
